The Coop is a farming building that serves the purpose of breeding chickens and hares, and in the case of chickens, also harvesting eggs. Animals placed inside the coop do not roam the surrounding area making it unnecessary to encircle the coop in a fence, though it may be more realistic looking to add a wattle fence.
A coop does not have any breeding pens, instead small animals breed on their own as long as they are well fed and living the good life.
The coop can be cleaned if the Dung'o'meter reached at least 20% to gain skill in Animal Lore, as well as 1 Dung per 20%. If you don't clean the Coop for a while, allowing the Dung to go over 100%, your animals may die through lack of Hygiene.
- NOTE If you DO let the Dung go over 100%, the coop is unable to raise high quality chickens for a few days. It is a good idea to let a coop to be empty for a few days before refilling it, to allow it to recover. Experience shows that even after a week (real time) animals still die from poor hygiene, suggest rebuilding a new coop.
Animals inside the coop need food and fresh water to survive. You can drag food like apples, carrots, cabbages or more into the coop, and the animals will eat from it at each game tick. If there is no food left inside the coop, animals might die from starvation.
The quality of a coop has no impact on the speed with at which animals level inside it eat, breed, or produce dung. Quality only determines the total hit points of the building.
